LOS BANOS — Police have arrested a murder suspect following a shooting in the area of 6th and I Streets early last week.

Just before 1 AM on Sunday, October 13, 37-year-old Jose Raul Nolasco had been discovered behind the Bank of America with a single gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at a Modesto area hospital.

Extensive investigation soon identified the primary suspect as 46-year-old Juan Luis Gonzalez Torres of Los Banos.

At around 8 AM on Wednesday, October 16, a Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Torres’ car in a hotel parking lot in Santa Nella and later pulled him over as he entered southbound I-5 from Highway 33.

Authorities believe that Torres, who hadn’t returned to his Los Banos apartment since the murder, had been preparing to flee the area.

He was arrested and booked at the Los Banos Police Department jail on suspicion of homicide.
