CUPERTINO – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department has announced the arrest of a hit and run suspect who was located less than 20 minutes after driving over a pedestrian and striking another.  According to officials. “On 10/1/2019 at 12:52 pm, deputies were called to a disturbance at Rancho San Antonio County Park in Cupertino.”

Multiple deputies and park rangers responded to the scene as one witness described how a female suspect struck two pedestrians and then drove away from the scene.

The vehicle information was gathered and a “BOL” (be on the lookout) began as deputies and rangers canvased the area. They located the vehicle just under 12 minutes at 1:05 pm.   The suspect was still at the park when deputies found the vehicle and suspect still inside the SUV she had used to drive into the pedestrians.  There was minor damage to the front of the SUV, with a broken headlight and a shattered windshield.

Deputies are trying to determine the cause for the incident. 50-year-old Mireya Orta was taken into custody after a brief encounter with deputies.  Orta was taken to a local hospital to determine if she had any injuries relating the incident, as a caution.  The investigation into the hit-and-run is still ongoing.
