SAN LUIS OBISPO — A man with an active arrest warrant out of Santa Barbara County has been arrested on multiple felonies after leading police on a chase in SLO County.

According to a September 30 press release, police began receiving calls about a man, later identified as 46-year-old William Meiborg, driving erratically through the city.

Responding officers chased him onto northbound Highway 101, at which point CHP joined the pursuit. Meiborg then made a U-turn at Reservoir Canyon and re-entered San Luis Obispo, prompting officials to terminate the chase out of concern for public safety.

Meiborg’s antics also soon came to an end when he crashed head-on into a vehicle on Olive Street, inflicting minor injuries on its occupants.

He then barricaded himself in his car and initially refused to comply with police orders. A negotiator managed to convince him otherwise.

Meiborg is now in custody on suspicion of felony evading and felony hit-and-run, as well as his active warrant.
