Monterey Sheriff announces arrests in gang activity investigations

CASTROVILLE — The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of nine people following a series of investigations into gang activity in and around Castroville.

The focus of the initial investigation came to a head on on September 12th, when investigators and SWAT officials served search warrants on Poole Street and Blevins Way regarding alleged criminal activity on the part of 42-year-old Miguel Vargas.

The warrant led to the seizure of around six pounds of meth, four pounds of heroin, three handguns, and over $12,000 in cash.

Vargas was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
