SAN BERNARDINO – A 911 call came into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department from a concerned citizen around 8:00 a.m. about a man yelling at an elderly woman in the front yard of their house.

55-year-old George Chammas, holding a baseball bat, was indeed yelling at the victim and forced her back inside of the residence, refusing to let her leave.

In addition, Chammas damaged the victim’s phone. When deputies arrived, the suspect showed a firearm though an open window of the residence and would not open the door for them.

Instead, “Chammas barricaded himself and the victim inside the residence and reinforced multiple entry points.”

The suspect would not respond to the SBSD’s attempts to get him to comply an exit the residence. The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) arrived.

After four hours, “Chammas voluntarily exited the residence and was taken into custody.” He was booked for kidnapping, false imprisonment and elder abuse. His bail is set at $250,000. The woman was not injured during this incident.
