REDDING — A 40-year-old man was arrested last weekend after two women called police to report that an armed suspect was chasing and shooting at them in downtown Redding.

After receiving a frantic 9-1-1 call, officers descended on the area of Market and Tehama Streets to find a Chevy Tahoe crashed into a building, but no one around.

The victims fled in their vehicle and Butcher chased them in his own, firing rounds at them as they sped through town.

Desperate to escape, the victims ultimately crashed their vehicle at the intersection of Market and Tehama and fled on foot.

Officers arrived moments later and found Butcher, armed with a loaded shotgun matching the description provided by the victims. Witness testimony and evidence gathered by officers also corroborated their account.

Butcher was then jailed on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle.
