SONORA — Police had their hands full when responding to a disturbance call at a business on Stockton Street last weekend.

Around 4 PM on Saturday, August 17, officers followed up on a report of a transient yelling at employees and throwing candy on the ground, though he’d fled prior to their arrival.

A sergeant located the subject — identified as 46-year-old Matthew Johnson — near Forest Road and Stockton Street.

Johnson, visibly intoxicated and with two warrants to his name, initially cooperated but soon decided he’d had enough. When he tried to walk away, the sergeant took him by the arm. at which point he began resisting and, at one point, threatened to kill the sergeant.

Ultimately, Johnson was arrested and booked at the county jail on his warrants and for threatening an officer.
