SAN LUIS OBISPO – On April 3rd 2019 deputies from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office arrived to the 2200 block of Beach Street in Oceano. They were responding to a report that an assault with a deadly weapon  had occurred in the area.

The deputies discovered 41-year-old Daniel Fuentes Sr. deceased inside of a home. Fuentes is believed to have entered the home after knocking on the door to report that he had been shot.

The investigation that followed, with the aid of tips and forensic evidence, led to three suspects.

On August 19th the SLOSO announced the arrest of the trio – 28-year-old Robert Joseph Garay, 21-year-old Gabriel Luis Garay and 21-year-old Nathaniel Alexander Jara. All three are members of a local gang and officers beleive the killing was gang related.  At the time of their arrest for the Fuentes shooting, all three suspects “were already in jail on an unrelated case.”
