Mendocino County man turns self in for alleged elder abuse, vandalism

LAYTONVILLE — A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of elder abuse and vandalism following an incident on Monday, August 19th.

Just before 4 PM, Mendocino Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at a residence on the 32000 block of Sherwood Road, where they were told that an 82-year-old woman had been assaulted and had her home vandalized by her adult grandson, identified as 28-year-old Vance Langenderfer.

Langenderfer was reportedly upset that the woman had taken out a restraining order against his wife.

Deputies say he barged into the house, yelling and screaming, then pushed her down, causing her to strike her head on the floor, smashed several items, and threatened to shoot her dead.

Langenderfer was not found at the scene, nor at his own residence. Although deputies issued a BOLO alert, he turned himself in three days later on Thursday, August 22nd.
