Suspect arrested for hit-and-run, assault on officer in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS — A 24-year-old man had himself an eventful and chaotic night that ended with him in jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and assault on a peace officer.

Just before 5 PM on August 10th, a deputy tried to make contact with a suspected intoxicated driver — identified as 24-year-old Cristian Reinoso — parked in a parking lot on Autumn Drive. Rather than follow instructions, Reinoso reportedly backed up toward the deputy, striking his unoccupied patrol vehicle, twice, and then fleeing the scene, striking a fence and a parked car in the process.

After leaving the parking lot, he blew a red light at the intersection of Los Vallecitos Boulevard and Knoll Road, collided with another vehicle, and ended up rolling his own.

At that point he fled on food into an apartment complex on Knoll Road, but was quickly apprehended.

After being treated for minor injuries sustained from the collision, Reinoso was booked on suspicion of assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injury.

The driver of the vehicle he struck was also treated for minor injuries. No deputies were injured.
