AUBURN – On July 27th the Mount Howell Fire Lookout Tower spotted “a building column of smoke” near the 12000 block of Streeter Road.

CAL FIRE air and ground resources, as well as several local fire departments, responded with an aggressive attack on the fire.

Thanks to their efforts, the fire was contained to 5.38 acres of damage.

An investigation determined that the someone operating a gas weed eater caused the fire. The operator did not have “any means to control or extinguish a kindled fire.”

At the time of the fire, temperatures hovered around 100 degrees and winds registered at 3 to 5 miles an hour.

The press release mentions that an arrest was made in connection to the fire, but the suspect’s name has not been released at this time.
