Father and Son in Jail, Accused of Sexually Abusing Multiple Children

ANTIOCH — A father and son are in custody in separate Contra Costa County jails on charges of sexually abusing multiple children. Both men were arrested earlier this month.

In June, Antioch police launched one of the largest sexual abuse cases in the city’s history. It concerns numerous minors living in foster care from 2011 through 2017.

Simon Mendoza Chavez, 64 of Antioch, is charged with 63 felonies related to child abuse. He remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $31.5 million bond.

The elder Chavez has been a foster parent more than 18 years, with children living at his home. He is accused of having sexual relations and committing lewd acts on children. Some of the victims were younger than 14 years old.

His son, Simon Magna Chavez, 31 of Atwater, is accused of sexually abusing two children. He remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1.2 million bond.

The younger Chavez is accused with having sexual relations and committing lewd acts on the children. He faces multiple felonies and misdemeanors related to alleged child abuse. Coincidentally, he is a former a state corrections officer.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information concerning this case can call Antioch police detective Kelly Inabnett at 925-779-6932.
