6,788 marijuana plants confiscated in two week operation

SISKIYOU – On May 21 the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office conducted six counter drug operations, seizing a total of 2,324 marijuana plants.

The operation was conducted in the Mt. Shasta Vista area of the county. Large illegal grow sites were the target of the operation.

In the previous week 4,464 illicit marijuana plants were confiscated “in the same general area.” That makes for a total of 6,788 plants.

No arrests were mad e int he operation as no one was discovered on the various properties.

The SCSO adds, Siskiyou County officials have enacted an ordinance that prohibits all outdoor marijuana cultivation in county areas and growers are limited to 12-plants inside an approved structure, for medical marijuana. Recreational marijuana, Pursuant to Prop 64, is limited to 6 marijuana plants, which may be grown in a residence or other enclosed structure.”

Sheriff John Lopey stated that “we are going to have a very busy and active counter-drug enforcement year. While we respect an adult’s right to legally consume medical or recreational marijuana under current state law, the large quantities of marijuana seized in commercial quantities in these recent operations have nothing to do with recreational or medicinal drugs but have everything to do with illicit drug trafficking, which adversely impacts public health, safety, our environment, and the quality of life in our own state, county, and many other jurisdictions.”
