PLACERVILLE – An assault in progress was reported to the Placerville Police Department shortly after noon on April 21st, Easter Sunday.  Officers responded to 1676 Broadway Drive and discovered two males – one lay in the road and the other waited nearby.

Other citizens who had witnessed some of the incident told police that the man standing by had stabbed the man in the road.

The victim, since identified as Jeremy Cook, had multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.  The suspect, 40-year-old Jason Lamar was also taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Lamar reported that the Cook approached him as he walked down Broadway and punched him in the head, causing him to fall onto the ground.

Lamar said that Cook then started hitting him in the head, so he pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Cook several times.

Lamar was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $135,000 bail.
