SANTA ANA – A 33 year old Santa Ana man faces murder charges after assaulting a 63-year-old man in a wheelchair. The victim sustained life threatening injuries during the assault.

Just after 7:00 AM on Sunday, March 10th, a witness in the area of the 3700 block of South Bristol Street called 911 to report that a man—described as about 35 years old with dark hair, wearing a gray hoodie and black pants—was assaulting another man, who was wheelchair-bound.

The suspect, later identified by the witness as 33-year-old Vittorio Roland Froncillo from Santa Ana, reportedly fled the scene, leaving the victim bleeding profusely from the head.

Medics arrived and attended to the victim, then transported him to a local trauma center. According to the Santa Ana Police Department Press Release, “the victim suffered severe head injuries and remains in grave condition.”

Witnesses told police that Froncillo walked southbound on Bristol Street following the assault. Officers located Froncillo, who then attempted to run away. Police were able to successfully detain him after a short pursuit on foot.

Froncillo was put behind bars at the Santa Ana Police Department jail and faces charges of attempted murder.

This case is still under investigation. Please contact Corporal M. Lemmon at MLemmon@santa-ana.org or (714) 245-8340 if you have additional information relating to this case.
