CAMPBELLSVILLE – Early on Sunday morning of December 2nd, a woman called the Tehama County Sheriff’s Offfice about her son and his random shooting of a rifle “in and around their residence.”

The shooter lives at the residence on Cohasset Stage Road with his mother and step-father. After his family tried to get him to put the gun down, 36-year-old Steven Irvine Jr. instead fired “at the couple and into the residence, telling them he was going to kill them.”

The woman and her husband left the residence in their vehicle. Responding law officers encountered the fleeing couple at the Cohasset Store, with bullet holes in their vehicle. The family reported that Irvine had been drinking and using either cocaine or meth.

SWAT arrived at the home, but it wasn’t until 3:00 p.m. that they deployed a flash bang and arrested Irvine inside of the house.

Irvine was charged with attempted murder, criminal threats and shooting in a gross negligent manner.
