RIVERSIDE – On December 4th at Lowe’s, a suspect stole multiple items and fled the store. Luckily, a Riverisde Police Department Motor Officer happened to be nearby and was flagged down by an employee immediately after the incident.

The officer got off of his motorcycle, at which time 29-year-old Joseph Heaps took off running from the 9800 block of Magnolia Avenue store.

The suspect got into a car on its passenger side as it was backing out of a parking space. The female driver did not know Heaps. Instead, he was trying to steal the car.

The officer arrived and pulled Heaps out of the car.  In the process of his attempted theft of the car, Heaps broke the arm of the victim.

The suspect was booked on charges of attempted carjacking, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
