19-year-old Suspect in Custody for Fatal Shooting in Broad Daylight

OAKLAND — A 19-year-old man is being held in custody for allegedly murdering a middle-aged man. Police arrested the suspect about eight hours after a fatal shooting incident occurred in broad daylight.

Investigators believe the two men knew each other, although it remains unclear if they were close, or merely acquaintances.
The shooting happened October 9, shortly after 4 p.m., near the intersection of Congress Avenue and High Street. :aw enforcement knows this residential area of East Oakland as a crime hot spot.

The victim, 37-year-old Marcel McCarther is a local resident. McCarther was walking towards a neighborhood store. He was shot a few minutes after exiting from his car. He died about a half hour later at a nearby hospital

Meanwhile, authorities quickly identified the suspected shooter. They identified the suspect with the aid of video evidence captured by surveillance cameras nearby.

Police searched East Oakland for Davonte A. Tyson, a 19-year-old Oakland transient, formerly from Antioch.  They located and arrested him on October 10 at 12:10 a.m. in another part of East Oakland.

A judge denied bail for his release, pending a court hearing.

In addition to the murder charge, Tyson faces three additional weapons-related charges. November 5 is the next date for his plea hearing in court.
