DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Police recently  arrested a Desert Hot Springs man for attempted homicide. The arrest came  in connection with an August shooting in the community.

Police on September 28 arrested Richard Alex Bernal, 20, of Desert Hot Springs on charges of attempted homicide and booked Bernal at the Larry Smith Detention Center.

The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force identified Bernal as a documented criminal street gang member. Therefore they assisted local police with the arrest.

Law enforcement arrested Bernal in connection with an assault on a male adult on August 15 in DHS.

As a result, police said the victim sustained four gunshot wounds in the assault. They found evidence related to the assault at Bernal’s residence when they arrested him.
