NILAND – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents credit a successful heroin bust to the expertise of the K-9 Detection Team. Agents arrested two men in a white Nissan Sentra at the Highway 111 Immigration checkpoint. It happened the morning of September 22nd at 8:06 A.M.

First, the 19 and 26-year-old men took part in an immigration inspection. When agents referred the vehicle for a secondary inspection, the K-9 team leaped into action.

Next, as the K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle, agents discovered three tightly-sealed packages in the rear seat area. The smuggled contraband weighed in at 6.9 pounds.

Subsequently, examination of the well-concealed seizure tested positive for heroin. Law reinforcement sets the estimated value of the take at $62,100.

As a result, the team handed over the notable nab to the Drug Enforcement Administration, who whisked away the two suspects, the vehicle, and dangerous narcotics for further investigation.

During this fiscal year, El Centro Sector agents have seized nearly 800 pounds of heroin, valued at $7.2 million.
