UNION CITY — Sometimes solving one crime leads to solving several crimes. For instance, a sex offender arrested for surreptitiously videotaping inside public restrooms was nabbed for several criminal vices.

Most noteworthy, the suspect is a registered sex offender. Now he is in trouble again. On October 6, he is scheduled to appear in court for allegedly videotaping four persons using a restroom. It also happens that the man is a plumber.

These videotaping incidents inside restrooms occurred at a Starbucks café in Union City, located at 32240 Dyer Street.

An investigation triggered by the discovery of a camera inside the restroom led authorities to search the suspect’s residence in Hayward on August 30. Investigators discovered evidence of his videotaping activities.

In addition, Union City detectives also located illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia, while combing through the man’s residence.

Authorities seized videotape recordings of people using restrooms. Plus, authorities confiscated suspected methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia.

As if that weren’t enough vices, the police also located and confiscated some child pornography from inside the suspect’s home.

With all this evidence in hand, police arrested 35-year-old David J. Lista, and booked him at Santa Rita Jail. Consequently, he remains in custody for $75,000 bond.

His charges include four counts of invasion of privacy, and possession of child pornography. Lista also faces charges for possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, Lista has a previous conviction for possessing child pornography, which he obtained by secretly videotaping young girls inside a school.
