Backpack Thief Turns Out to be No Friend

SAN LUIS OBISPO –  On August 28 at 6:50 p.m. Alex Friend apparently was no friend to a man he assaulted.

The incident at  2276 Broad Street involving the 26-year-old suspect brought out the SLOPD.

A citizen witnessed a fight between two males. Responding officers discovered a male victim who reported that the suspect stole his backpack and  laptop.

The victim who suffered some scrapes also named his attacker.

The investigating officer knew Mr. Friend and knew the area where he hung out around Mission Plaza. As a result, the officer soon saw Friend.

The suspect admitted to the theft. and now faces a robbery charge. His bail is $30,000.
