Three Arrests in Internet Crimes Against Children

SAN FRANCISCO – The SFPD Internet Crimes Against Children Unit announced arrests of three men recently.

54-year-old Cristobal Avendano – In the first place, on August 20 investigators arrested Avendano after reports of his attempt to meet a 14-year-old girl. The social media attempt included his “attempt to send graphic sexual images.”

Avendano made an attempt to meet the minor in SF. His charges are –

  • arranging to meet a minor for sex;
  • communicating with a minor for sex;
  • going to an arranged meeting with a minor for sexual contact.

50-year-old Maurice Alvarez– also in August, the ICAC unit investigated Alvarez as he attempted to upload child pornography. This attempt occurred on a peer-to-peer file sharing network.

On August 21 investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home on the 2700 block of Bush Street. They discovered videos and images “depicting minors engaging in sexual acts.”

Alvarez’ charges are possession of child pornography.

73-year-old Stanley Barbarich – the ICAC Unit also investigated Barbarich for obtaining child pornography “through an encrypted file sharing network.”

On August 23 investigators entered a house boat on Liberty Dock in Sausalito. There they discovered thousands of videos and images of child pornography.

Barbarich’s charge is possession of child pornography.
