SANTEE – Authorities recently identified the getaway driver in a 2016 murder. San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a San Diego man and charged him with being an accomplice in a Santee murder.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Jaen Avila-Soto, 23, on August 15. They charged him with being the driver of a vehicle that helped Jose Luis Nunez-Torres flee the scene on October 4, 2016. On that day the suspects conducted home invasion robbery/murder of Leticia Arroyo in Santee.

As a result, Officers arrested Torres and charged him with the murder of Arroyo on October 16, 2016.  In contrast, investigators did not name his accomplice who drove the getaway car and escaped. Torres shot Arroyo, 34, in the head at her home during the robbery and died at the scene.

In early August, the San Diego District Attorney’s Office received a tip about the potential identity of the getaway driver. This allowed sheriff’s deputies to identify Soto as the person who allegedly help Torres flee the scene of the murder.

Finally, Soto was charged with being an Accessory After the Fact and Robbery and is being held on $50,000 bail in San Diego Central Jail.
