UNION CITY — An ex-Uber driver in custody must answer to several felony charges for allegedly sexually kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman passenger. The incident happened last month.

The suspect worked as an Uber driver when he assaulted the woman on July 14. However, the driver allegedly picked her up independently of his association with Uber, according to authorities.

The suspect is accused of stopping to sexually assault the intoxicated woman while he drove her from San Francisco to Union City.

Following an investigation, Union City detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kevin Saballas, 30 of San Francisco. Detectives traveled to a business located in South San Francisco to arrest Saballas without further incident.

Authorities transported Saballas to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and booked him on August 14. He remains behind bars in lieu of $270,000 bail.

His charges are kidnapping, imprisonment by violence, sexual battery by restraint, and forcible oral copulation.

In addition, Saballas faces an enhanced charge and the possibility of state prison. His plea hearing is on August 31 at the East County Hall of Justice.

Anyone with information about this case or other possible victims can call the Union City Police Department at 510-675-5283.
