Knife-wielding man assaults officer at La Quinta Wal-Mart

LA QUINTA- Police arrested a knife-wielding Palm Desert man for vandalism and assault on a police officer. The arrest followed an altercation in a La Quinta Wal-Mart restroom.

On July 22 police arrested Daniel Lamont, 33, for assault on a police officer and vandalism. During his arrest, both Lamont and a police officer sustained minor injuries. Both went to a local hospital for treatment.

According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report, La Quinta police on July 22 responded on responded to a report of a man armed with a knife and vandalizing a Wal-Mart restroom on Highway 111 in La Quinta.

Police arrived to find Lamont vandalizing the restroom and refusing to leave. After Lamont locked himself into a bathroom stall, police engaged in a lengthy discussion with Lamont and eventually coaxed him out of the stall and took him into custody.

Store employees evacuated Wal-Mart during the incident that occurred around 10 p.m.
