Homeless Arsonist Arrested After Public Safety Action Plan

SANTA ANA – The SAPD arrested a homeless arsonist on July 13 after numerous suspicious fires occurred,

In fact, four intentionally set fires happened in the Jack Fisher Park and Santiago Creek area on one day – July 10.

Another fire. a vegetation fire,  broke out on July 13 in Santiago Creek near 900 W. River Lane.

Soon after investigators located 26-year-old Gustavo Garcia and detained him as a suspect in the fire.

Detectives linked Garcia to several of the recent fires and charged him with multiple felony counts of arson.

Locals held a Public Safety Meeting on July 10, at which time law enforcement and firefighters devised a plan. This plan included “24/7 monitoring of the area by by police and fire personnel.”

Authorities report 14 suspicious fires between June 10 – July 13 that appear to be related.
