KENTFIELD — Marin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man on suspicion of robbing his co-worker outside an apartment building on the morning of July 5.

The armed robbery occurred outside 920 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at approximately 10:30 a.m.

In the first place, someone across the street at Colonial Liquors called 911 and reported hearing a man yelling for help.

Deputies dispatched to investigate found a semi-automatic firearm discarded near the victim’s apartment. A records check revealed that the firearm was reported stolen from the Sacramento area.

Consequently, deputies learned that the suspect fled from the area in a black Dodge Challenger. Local police agencies were notified to be on the lookout for the suspect passing through their jurisdictions.

About 20 minutes later, a deputy spotted a black Dodge Challenger matching the description of the suspect’s car. The car was traveling northbound on Highway 101 near Novato.

The car passed Gnoss Field at Marin County Airport. Then the deputy pulled over the driver just as the car was approaching the Sonoma County line.

Officers detained the solo occupant of the car, until the robbery victim positively identified the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.

Incredibly, the victim told deputies that the suspect—his co-worker—robbed him less than an hour ago. Property belonging to the victim was located inside the suspect’s car.

Deputies arrested 20-year-old Daniel X. Rivas of Rohnert Park for the robbery. Rivas’ charges are suspicion of brandishing a firearm, negligently discharging a firearm, robbery, and burglary.
