Scam Alert for Phoned-In Warrant Ruse

Scam Alert for Phoned-In Warrant Ruse

TRINITY COUNTY – The TCSO alerts the community of a scam alert that begins with a phone call.  The caller identifies themselves as law enforcement, even using the name of an actual officer.

First of all, the caller says that there is a warrant out for the potential victim’s arrest.

However, the scammer offers a solution.  First, go to the CVS in Weaverville. Then, purchase $2,000 worth of Green Dot Moneypak cards. Finally, contact the scammer via phone and provide them the numbers on the back of the cards.

As a result, your money is gone and untraceable.

The TCSO says, “If anyone contacts you and requests that you purchase a Green Dot Moneypak card for payment, contact us.  The government will never request payment via these cards.”

The TCSO phone is (530)623-2611.
