SANTA ANA – Detectives believe transient Steve Rodriguez (60) may have a vast and varied past.  Most noteworthy, it includes being shot by a customer while brandishing a revolver at the Cozy Corner Restaurant.

Previous Incidents

First of all, Rodriguez is the suspect in a May 21st food truck robbery at 17th and Hazard. He is also a suspect in –

  • a May 20th carjacking in Rosita Park;
  • a May 20th robbery of a young couple;
  • a Boost Mobile store incident at 17th Street and Harbor Blvd on the 21st.

Law enforcement will submit these four incidents “to the District Attorney for review and possible case filing.” Furthermore, it is also likely that Rodriguez is responsible for other unreported robberies.

The Cozy Corner Shooting

The May 26th Cozy Corner robbery has a twist: “The Hispanic male entered the Cozy Corner restaurant. During the robbery, a silver Honda Accord occupied by several subjects stopped in the drive-thru lane by the window.  An occupant in the vehicle shot robbery suspect Rodriguez twice in the upper torso. Authorities took Rodriguez to a local hospital in critical condition. The suspect and vehicle involved in Rodriguez’ shooting fled the scene southbound on Harbor Blvd.”

Afterward, officers obtained surveillance video of the incident ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIcXBmvYY1Q).  As a result, they believe the shooter’s vehicle is a silver Honda Accord.

Any Additional Help?

In addition to Rodriguez’ arrest, SAPD Robbery Detective Greaver asks for information leading to the identity of the suspected shooter.
