NEVADA CITY – On Tuesday morning a murder charge was placed, stemming from an incident that occurred on February 6. On that day, 67-year-old Pamela Diana DeGrio was shot multiple times in the 10000 block of North Bloomfield Road.

After months of investigation, 71-year-old Oroville resident Michael Kent Sturgell was charged in DeGrio’s murder.

The couple had been married and divorced over 40 years ago and have one child.

Sturgell has been in custody since April 4 for an unrelated burglary of firearms. In fact, a firearm that was stolen from DeGrio’s home after her murder was recovered with other firearms in Butte County in a burglary attached to Sturgell.
