DUI Wreck that Killed Three Leads to Murder Charges

LOS ANGELES – A man who was driving while under the influence ran a red light on Saturday at South Hoover and West 76th Street.

In doing so, the driver hit a minivan with five people aboard.  Three of the occupants were killed as a result of the wreck.

30-year-old Jose Manuel Garcia was charged with three counts of murder and gross vehicular homicide.  He was also charged with DUI within ten years of another DUI offense.

34-year-old Juan Reynoso, his 6-year-old daughter Emma and 5-months-old son Sebastian were killed. The other two members of the family survived.

If convicted, Garcia faces up to 82 years to life in prison. Prosecutors have recommended that his bail be set at $6 million.
