WASCO – A shooting occurred on May 21, 1988 near 10th Place and Griffith Avenue. Responding officers discovered four people, one a juvenile, had been shot.

One of the shooting victims, Alfredo Quinones,, died as  a result of his injuries. Paul Sanchez was identified as the shooter  and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Nothing happened for the next 30 years, until February of this year when authorities finally got a lead that the now-54-year-old Sanchez was living in Phoenix under the name “Francisco Sanchez.”  And so, “Over the following months, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office worked in conjunction with the Homeland Security Investigations Bakersfield Gang Unit to further develop the information.”

On April 24, with the assistance of the Phoenix PD, Sanchez was arrested on the 1000 block of N. 27th Street in Phoenix, AZ.

Sanchez was charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder and remains in jail in Arizona, awaiting extradition.
