UNION CITY — A woman is being held in custody with bail denied for allegedly shooting her husband to death last Sunday night.

Sara Chereji, 56 of Union City, was arrested on April 22 at 10:25 p.m., about 10 minutes after police responded to a call that a person had been shot inside a residence on the 4300 block of Feldspar Court.

Responding officers located the victim, 57-year-old Soren Chereji, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Alameda County Fire Department also responded, and they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police said the victim’s wife was at home when the shooting happened, but they have not identified the third person who located inside the home when officers arrived.

Chereji was transported to Santa Rita Jail, where she was booked at 10:37 a.m. on April 23.

Chereji is charged with murdering her husband, and six separate enhanced felony charges for allegedly using a firearm in commission of crimes, which include causing great bodily harm. If convicted she faces additional sentencing time in state prison for each enhanced charge.

Union City detectives are continuing to investigate the case. Anyone with any information related to this crime is asked to call 510-675-5283, or alternatively leave an anonymous tip at 510-675-5207.
