Fires Started in Home Leads to Evacuations and Neighborhood Shutdown

FULLERTON — A new meaning to “Keep the Home Fires Burning” sent a Fullerton PD response for a call regarding a man setting fires in a home on the 1700 block of W. Fern.

The other resident in the home had fled and called the police at 10:25 AM, yesterday. A Facebook post warned of the police activity and the active investigation. Facebook comments alluded to a loud sound followed by authorities arriving at the same area the night before.

As evacuations commenced, a Facebook update announced,”Evacuations have been conducted in the surrounding area and officers are attempting to make contact with the male. More updates to follow.”

The police standoff lasted until approximately 5:40 PM, when a warrant was served on the suspect Robert Masai (29).

Fullerton PD declared in a final Facebook alert: “Robert Masai was taken into custody for violation of PC 422(a), criminal threats, and PC 417.8, brandishing a knife. Special thanks to all the residents in the area for their patience while we worked towards a successful resolution to this incident.”
