EAST LOS ANGELES -While Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to yesterday evening’s ‘Robbery in Progress’ call to a business located at Ditman Ave. and Olympic Blvd. in unincorporated East Los Angeles, the call was upgraded.

Emergent information came in at approximately 5:30 PM that a male Hispanic suspect was dousing the business with gasoline.

LASD announced, “When deputies arrived, they contacted the suspect and recognized the immediate need to neutralize the threat. In doing so, the deputies utilized less-than-lethal force. The application of the use of force proved effective and the threat was stopped. The suspect sustained burn injuries that are under investigation. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.”

An employee was also doused with what detectives deemed ‘possible ignitable liquid’ believed to be gasoline. The victim did not sustain injury. No deputies were injured.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail responded, and gathered the liquid accelerant, along with additional evidence.
