Search warrant leads to seizure of drugs, paraphernalia; 2 arrested

SMARTSVILLE // Three are in custody after the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a home on the 1000 block of Peardon Road.

On December 28th, 2017, detectives served the warrant after securing it during an investigation into local distribution of methamphetamine. Officials seized nearly 50 grams of methamphetamine, 27 grams of mushrooms, suspected LSD, and digital scales.

Thirteen firearms, including two AR-15s, were also recovered.

Two subjects — 51-year-old Duke Charlesworth and 60-year-old Joseph Axtell — were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

They are now housed at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
