Sheriff: Modesto man arrested for Vernon Avenue shooting

MODESTO // Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a shooting on Vernon Avenue that left a 47-year-old man dead.
On December 22nd just before 3 PM, deputies arrived on the 1700 block of Vernon Avenue, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Responding medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
While securing the property, detectives detained 48-year-old Joey Hardy. They soon learned that Hardy and the victim had gotten into an altercation outside the home. At some point, the victim was shot.
Detectives have yet to determine the nature of Hardy and the victim’s relationship. Hardy is now in custody on a charge of homicide.
