LENWOOD // 42-year-old Jeffrey Daniels of Lenwood is in police custody after unleashing an axe attack on two people during an argument.

On December 17th just after 9:30 PM, Barstow Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the 34000 block of Birch Road after a report of someone having been injured by an axe. At the scene, they learned that Daniels had attacked two people with an axe after an argument over Daniels’ alleged abuse of illegal drugs.

A third person was able to get the axe away from him, at which point he retrieved a metal pipe from somewhere outside, went back into the house, and continued his assault. One of the victims suffered several injuries to his wrist and hand while trying to disarm Daniels.

When deputies arrived, Daniels tried to flee on foot while carrying the axe, having apparently picked it up again before taking off. Deputies chased him for about a mile before catching him and taking him into custody. By that time, however, he’d ditched the axe. Police called in K9 officer Ellie, who helped deputies locate the axe in a nearby field.

All three victims of the attack were taken to hospital for treatment. Daniels is housed at High Desert Detention Center for attempted murder.

His bail has been set to $1,000,000.
