EMERYVILLE – A suspect is facing multiple felony charges next year for fatally shooting one man and critically wounding another man—when they purportedly tried stealing a large quantity of cannabis from him.

The shooting incident occurred on December 4 shortly after 6 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Target department store located at 1555 40th Street.

Officers from Emeryville and Oakland responded to reports of several rounds of gunfire, which stunned holiday shoppers in the busy parking lot.

Two victims were found bloodied and lying on the pavement suffering from multiple gunshot wounds when police arrived. Police recovered three firearms, including a semi-automatic weapon.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. One of the victims, 19-year-old Richmond resident Eondre L. Bolton, died a few days later at the hospital on December 10. The second unidentified victim was treated and survived.

The suspected shooter was caught while trying to flee from the area. Emeryville police detained and arrested him, with assistance from Oakland officers.

The suspect is identified as Cameron T. Smith, 22, of Oakland. Smith was booked at Santa Rita Jail, where he remains in custody with bail denied.

Smith is charged with murder, attempted murder, personal use of a firearm, inflicting great bodily injury, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling (the Target store).

The suspect is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on January 22 at the Rene C. Davidson Alameda County Courthouse.
