Carjacker Quickly Caught in Hemet

HEMET – A carjacking occurred on November 14 at 8:30 pm in the 220 block of North Sanderson Avenue. In this incident, the success came up to the driver, produced a gun and took the keys of the victim’s car.

As HPD officers were gathering information at the scene, another officer spotted the stolen vehicle.  A brief chase ensued, and then  the car chase ended at Winchester and Benton Roads.

The suspect, however, jumped out of the moving car and tried to run away. He was arrested immediately.

31-year-old Anthony Screws was charged with robbery, carjacking, probation violation and gun violations. Screws has allegedly been involved in several armed robberies in Hemet this past month.

Screws’ bail was set at $1.1 million.
