VALLEY SPRINGS // On November 16th, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted a compliance inspection of a registered personal marijuana grow site on the 3500 block of Dunn Road.

While officers were unable to make contact with anyone on the property, they allegedly heard movement and a cell phone ringing inside.

Since the grow op was indoors, deputies obtained a search warrant and made entry when nobody answered the front door. 66-year-old Lin Bin Wei was found in a bedroom and proceeded to defy deputies’ commands.

He ended up detained and later arrested for illegal cultivation, after deputies discovered plants grown in areas of the residence where growing was not authorized.

Approximately 43 pounds of processed marijuana and 21 marijuana plants were also seized.

Wei is housed at the Calaveras County Jail on $15,000 bond.
