2 Arrests in 2005 Gunshot Murder

Michael Marshall and Malachi Dawson

SAN BERNARDINO — On November 27, 2005, 23-year-old Victorville resident Noel Cornelius’ dead body lay out in the Apple Valley Desert, shot to death. Cornelius was married to Rebekah Dawson.

For seven years, there was no resolution, and cold case detectives took over the investigation in 2012.

In the investigation, witnesses reported that the victim was last seen alive in Malachi and Issac Dalton’s apartment.  Rebekah Dawson is Malachi and Isaac’s sister.  Another person named Michael Marshall was reportedly with them in the apartment.

Interviews and examinations of physical evidence were part of the continuing investigation.

Then, in September of this year, details in the case finally led to two arrests.  On September 11, 2017, Malachi Dawson, now 32 years old, was arrested for Cornelius’ murder, and his bail was set at $1 million.

Detectives interviewed Michael Marshall, now 33 years old, on August 17 in Georgia, and arrested him on October 11, also for murder.  On November 3, Marshall was extradited to San Bernardino County.
