No Contest Plea in 2014 DUI-Caused Death of LAPD Officer

LOS ANGELES — On April 5 2014, LAPD Officer Christopher Cortijo lost his life as he sat on his motorcycle at a stop light behind another car.

37-year-old Qaneak Shaney Cobb was driving her Chevy Blazer over 50 mph while under the influence of cocaine when she slammed into officer Cortijo and crushed him against the car in front of him, killing him.

The accident occurred at the corner of Lankershim Boulevard and Saticoy Street.

On Thursday, she pleaded no contest to one count of second degree murder.

Cobb will likely be sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison.
