Man Arrested for String of Burglaries in Old Fig Garden

Anthony Garza

On Monday, October 16th, deputies were dispatched shortly before noon to West Barstow and North Maroa Avenues on a report of attempted car theft.

The owner of the vehicle found 34-year old Anthony Garza of Fresno inside her garage trying to take her car. The suspect gained access to the garage with a remote door opener obtained from an unlocked vehicle parked in front of the house. Garza ran away after he was confronted by the woman, leaving behind a bag of miscellaneous items.

Fresno Sheriff’s Office activated their helicopter, EAGLE One, to gain an aerial view, as Fresno Police Officers set up a perimeter where Garza was spotted, around the neighborhood of North Del Mar and East Alamos Avenues.

Garza managed to hide until about 2 PM when he was spotted trying to go beyond the perimeter and arrested after a short chase near East Santa Ana Avenue and North Effie Street.

Further inquiry into this case discovered Garza was responsible for several burglaries reported in this area, Fresno’s Old Fig Garden.

Garza is being held at the Fresno County Jail with bail set at $203,500. His charges include “burglary, possession of stolen property, attempting to steal a car, and evading police” (Fresno County Sheriff’s Office).

A reminder from the Sheriff’s Office: Always make sure your car doors and windows are locked and shut and do not leave valuables in cars parked outside.

Anyone with additional information on Garza can contact Detective Floyd Avila at 559-600-8172 or Detective Tim Juarez at 559-600-8061 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867. You may be eligible for a cash reward.
