EUREKA // On the evening of August 25th at around 6 PM, officers arrived at a home on the 1300 block of 7th Street after receiving a report of a shooting.

75-year-old David Alan Kobak had allegedly been involved in a shooting at the house and was detained at the front door.

Officers entered the home and discovered a man on the floor, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police secured and executed a search warrant at the scene and collected evidence including a “firearm, fired brass casings, and bullet fragments.”

The casings were consistent with both the make and model of the gun, and the victim’s wounds.

Kobak is housed at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on a charge of murder. While his relationship with the victim or the duration of their stay together are not known, police believe the two had both been living at the home and that the shooting was not in self-defense.
