SANTA CLARITA – On July 11 a deadly shooting occurred at Begonias State Park in which 25-year-old Ivan Solis lost his life.

The LA County DA press release states that he was issued a “gang challenge” from 20-year-old Nicholas Colletta and 24-year-old Jacqueline Arreola. He apparently gave the wrong response and was killed.

The murderous duo left the park by using a ridesharing service.

On Tuesday they were charged with one count of murder that included the allegation that it was committed in order to benefit a criminal street gang. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reports that they both pled not guilty. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 15.

Colletta also faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, with three priors.  For her part, Arreola also faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact.

A sentence of 50 years to life in prison may follow a conviction in this case.
