Duo Arrested Following Interrupted Home Break-in

Jorge Garcia Herrera and Jose Covarrubias

PALO ALTO — The Palo Alto Police Department(PAPD) has announced the arrest of two male suspects after an attempted house burglary while a 60-year-old male resident was at home.

According to the PAPD, “On Thursday, August 3, 2017, at about 1:10 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a resident reporting that he had just chased two men from his home on the 2700 block of Emerson Street.”

After being startled by one of the two suspects entering the home, the victim began to argue with him and gave chase, but then quickly retreated back to his home to call 9-1-1. Once he returned to his home, he found a second suspect exiting his yard. The second suspect began to flee in the same area as the first suspect.

During a brief search of the area, patrolling officers located one suspect at the intersection of Emerson Street and Santa Rita Avenue, while the second suspect was identified and located at the intersection of N. California Avenue and Bryant Street.

The victim was taken to do a field line-up, and was able to identify both men as the suspects he saw exiting his home and yard.

43-year-old Jorge Garcia Herrera and 37-year-old Jose Covarrubias were arrested for felony burglary of a dwelling. Herrera was also booked for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of San Jose for drug-related offenses.
