KELSEYVILLE — On July 11th at just before 10 PM, a woman checked the surveillance footage at her home on the 3000 block of Stone Drive to receive a rather unwelcome surprise.

Two people had been in her house earlier that night. She called police, who met with her to review the footage.

It showed two subjects, a man and a woman, enter the home at around 7:15. It wasn’t long before they noticed the cameras and left, stealing two of them in the process.

The investigating deputy immediately recognized them as 38-year-old Jessica Rebecca Alvarez of Kelseyville and 35-year-old Christopher Jose Vasquez of Clearlake Oaks.

As it turned out, by the time he got the call, he’d already arrested them on separate charges near the Sears on South Main Street in Lakeport.

He met with them at Lake County Jail, where they were housed, and the pair admitted to entering the home looking for a place to spend the night. They said they’d panicked when they saw the cameras, took them, and threw them into the bushes near where they were later arrested.

In addition to the misdemeanor drug charges for which they were initially arrested, Alvarez and Vazquez are now on the hook for burglary and possession of stolen property, with bail resting at $50,000 each.

The stolen cameras were ultimately recovered as well.
