Police Arrest Murder Suspect in Auburn

AUBURN — As of June 9th, 19-year-old Timothy Mason has been arrested on murder charges at his home on the 300 block of Sacramento Street.

Mason is the primary suspect in the murder of 62-year-old Steven Shelton.

On June 9th, just before 6:30 AM, officers arrived at a park on the corner of Pacific and Sacramento after reports of an injury. There they discovered Shelton and quickly realized he’d been stabbed.

Shelton was taken to a local hospital, where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.

In an official press release by the Auburn Department of Public Safety, Sergeant Tucker Huey writes, “[The suspect] is believed to have acted alone and no additional suspects are believed to be at large.”

Timothy Mason is held at Placer County Jail without bail while the investigation continues.
